The Wea`tah is unlike most other units in the fact that we offer our members
programs to help with their personal advancement in skills and knowledge
of Arts & Sciences, combat skills and Dagorhir in general. It
is through our proactive programs that we as a unit can grow and learn
from each other as well as be able to feel like a family within the
ranks. The following are some of the programs we offer to all unit
members. We are willing to work with our members as much as possible to
ensure that they are confident with their abilities.
Below are just a few of the programs we currently have available to our
members. As the unit grows and our members advance we shall add more to
cover a wider verity of skill learning and motivational programs.
Loaner-Owner Program:
We, as a unit accept that not everyone who joins our unit is used to Dagorhir, its rules or requirements. We also accept that because of
this, there are those who join that do not have their own garb or
weapons. It is with this in mind that we have started the Loaner-Owner
Program.
When someone joins the unit and becomes a full member we try to help
provide them with the bare minimum requirements of garb and weapons.
Each new member shall receive the following.
1 pair of simple pants
1 simple T-tunic
1 set of spats to cover the shoes
1 tabard
1 sword
All the items shall have the unit symbol in it somewhere. They are of
simple design. These items are not given to the member but rather
loaned, in hopes that he or she well want to acquire better garb and
weapons.
Skill Improvement Program: As a unit
focused on Arts & Sciences, We believe that to just hoard that
knowledge is pointless. Therefore the unit offers classes to its members
so they may learn how to make the items for themselves. It is through the
sharing of this knowledge and encouragement of its younger members that we
can hope to raise the bar of quality items. Our workshops are, but not
limited to…
Garb
Weapon Smithing
Armour Smithing
Jewellery Making
Leather Working
Weapons Training
Siege Weapon Construction
Group Combat Tactics
Belly Dancing
Yoga
Feast Cooking
Calligraphy
(others to be listed)
Minion Program:
It is understandable that in some cases a member can’t afford to just go
out and ‘buy’ the garb or weapons they want. Nor can they even afford
the required materials to make items even if they attend the classes. We
believe that these people shouldn’t be punished because of the lack of
funds. So we have the Minion Program to help those in need.
Should a member wish to work for the required materials, they can
volunteer their time to provide extra help needed in our Arts and
Sciences workshops. If the unit is armour smithing, there are always
links that need to be made. If they are sewing, there is always
something that needs to be pinned. And so forth.
When working as a minion, a portion of the labour put forth will be
credited to buy the minion’s materials needed. Items can then be
constructed by the minion, on group or individual time, or else labour
assistance can be negotiated separately with craft specialists.
Training Facilities Program:
There are times when a member just can’t make it to practice, but they
still might want to get in a few hours of sparing or what not. We
encourage our members to spar together on their own schedule and we even
provide a small, indoor, weather-proof training room.
The training room
has books on tactics from history as well as books and training tools from
different combat groups and fighting styles around the globe. All are free
to use for any member. Due to the fact that the training facilities are in
the home of one of the members, it is asked that you call and set up a
time to work out in the training room.
